Seventeen days after the case of the transfemicide of Estefanía Montiel, a 25-year-old transgender woman, was made public, the case has been archived by the Judicial System and has fallen into oblivion for the media that covered the news.

After living in a violent environment, she suffered a violent death. Even after her death, her rights continue to be violated. The case of the transgender woman from the city of Granada captured the attention of most of the country's media outlets, generating a great deal of controversy in both the Nicaraguan press and on social media.

The main form of violence faced by transgender women in Nicaragua is the denial of their gender identity. This is clearly reflected in the headlines covering Estefanía's case, where the pronoun "he" is consistently used to refer to her, demonstrating the violation of her right to be recognized as a transgender woman.

Various members of the LGBTIQ+ community took to social media to demand clarification of the motive behind her death and that justice be served so that this case does not go unpunished. Situations of aggression like these motivated groups and individuals within the LGBTQ+ community to expand the LGBTIQ+ Human Rights Agenda in Nicaragua, this time within the framework of a Central American initiative.
